Planning what to see in Tenerife works best when you group the island into contrasting days: Teide, the north, the west coast, Anaga and your chosen beach area.

Teide National Park

Teide offers volcanic landscapes, viewpoints and the cable-car area. Check official road, ticket and permit information before going.

Historic north

La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz, Icod, Garachico and La Laguna offer architecture, gardens and local life. Pick a few rather than rushing through all of them.

Coast and mountains

South beaches are convenient for facilities; north and west coasts are more dramatic. Anaga and Teno need extra time for winding roads and changeable weather.

Keep it flexible

A hire car gives freedom, but the best route leaves room for clouds, wind, parking and a village worth staying in longer.
