El Médano has a different feel from Tenerife’s larger southern resorts: a relaxed town, broad beach and the distinctive outline of Montaña Roja. It is especially popular with visitors who enjoy wind sports and a more informal coastal atmosphere.
Beach and wind
El Médano can be windy, which is ideal for some sports but not always for a calm family swim. Check flags and conditions before choosing where to enter the sea.
Montaña Roja
The protected volcanic cone is a landmark of the area. Follow marked access rules, take water and sun protection, and avoid walking in strong heat or high wind.
Town and food
The promenade has cafés and restaurants with an easygoing atmosphere. It is a good place for lunch after the beach or a short coastal walk.
Getting there
El Médano is convenient from the south and airport area. A car gives you flexibility to combine it with nearby beaches, but use designated parking and do not leave valuables visible.
