El Caletón in Garachico is one of Tenerife’s best-known natural-pool areas, created by volcanic eruptions along the coast. It is a beautiful stop, but bathing conditions are determined by the Atlantic on the day.
Check conditions first
Follow flags, barriers, lifeguards and local notices. Do not enter when pools are closed or the sea is rough. Slippery rock, waves and changing water levels make this a place for caution.
Visit Garachico slowly
Combine El Caletón with Garachico’s historic centre, harbour and coastal walk. The town is best experienced on foot once you have parked in an approved area.
What to bring
Take non-slip footwear, water, sun protection and a towel. Keep valuables out of sight in the car and supervise children closely near the water.
Plan a north-west route
El Caletón works well with Icod, Isla Baja or a west-coast drive. Allow extra time for roads and never treat a closed pool as a reason to take unnecessary risks.
