Driving up Teide is one of Tenerife’s most memorable road trips. The route climbs from coastal warmth through pine forest to a high volcanic landscape, and it needs a little more preparation than a normal day drive.
Choose your route
Different roads approach the national park from the north, south and west. Pick the route that suits your base, check official road notices and avoid trying to cover every approach in a single day.
Parking and cable car
Popular viewpoints and the cable-car base can fill early. Use official parking, reserve timed cable-car tickets when needed and check operating conditions on the day.
Summit permits
The protected trail to the summit crater requires a separate official permit when it is open. A cable-car ticket is not a summit permit.
Mountain safety
Take water, warm layers, sun protection and suitable footwear. Drive carefully, respect barriers and turn back if weather or altitude makes the plan unsafe.
