A trip to Teide from Costa Adeje is one of Tenerife’s classic drives. It is easy to underestimate the mountain: distances look short, but the road climbs sharply and weather can be completely different from the coast.
Plan the drive
Leave early, fill the tank before climbing and use official traffic information to check for closures. The route passes villages and pine forest before reaching the national park, so build in time for safe viewpoints rather than stopping on unsuitable road shoulders.
Parking and cable car
Parking spaces near popular stops can fill quickly. If you plan to use the cable car, reserve a timed ticket through the official operator and check operating conditions on the day: wind may affect service.
Permits
The protected path to the summit crater needs its own official permit when open. A cable-car ticket alone is not enough. Carry the identification associated with the reservation and respect all access controls.
Mountain essentials
Take warm layers, water, sun protection and suitable footwear. Drive calmly, avoid alcohol before altitude, and do not continue if you feel unwell. A flexible plan is the best way to enjoy Teide safely.
