Puerto de la Cruz is one of Tenerife’s best bases for a holiday with character. Its Atlantic seafront, old town, gardens and access to the north make it a good alternative to the large southern resorts.
Walk the centre and seafront
Start around the old town and promenade, then choose a café, garden or coastal viewpoint. The town is easy to enjoy on foot, though the terrain includes slopes.
Use it as a north-Tenerife base
La Orotava, Icod, Garachico and Teide are realistic car day trips. Plan one main direction per day and allow extra time for mountain and coastal roads.
Beach and sea conditions
The Atlantic is part of Puerto de la Cruz’s appeal, but conditions vary. Follow flags and local advice, and choose supervised areas for swimming.
Practical tips
Parking can be limited in central areas, so use public car parks and explore on foot. Take a light layer: the north is often cooler than the south.
