Going to Teide from Costa Adeje is one of Tenerife’s best day trips. You leave the southern coast, climb through villages and pine forest, and arrive in a volcanic landscape that feels far removed from the beach. Good planning makes the day safer and more enjoyable.
Driving from Costa Adeje
A car is the most flexible option. It lets you stop at viewpoints, adjust to weather and visit different parts of the national park. Start early, fill up before the climb and allow extra time for bends, traffic and photo stops. Mountain weather can change quickly, so check road information before departure.
Bus and organised excursions
Public transport and excursions can work if you do not want to drive, but schedules limit your flexibility. Confirm current routes, collection points and return times before booking. If you want several viewpoints or a sunset stop, a car is usually more practical.
Cable car, summit permit and parking
The cable car has separate timed tickets and may stop because of wind or other safety conditions. A cable-car ticket does not include access to the summit crater trail; that protected section needs an official permit when open. Parking can fill up, so avoid arriving at the last minute.
What to take
Bring water, sun protection, a warm layer and suitable shoes. Temperatures at altitude are often much lower than in Costa Adeje. Drive carefully, do not stop where it is unsafe, and respect marked trails and protected areas.
