Tenerife beaches are varied: golden sand, black volcanic coves, resort promenades and wild Atlantic stretches. The right choice depends on your plans, facilities and—above all—conditions on the day.
South Tenerife
The south generally has resort-friendly beaches, services and easy access. Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas work well for a straightforward beach day, while El Médano has a more wind-sport feel.
North and west coasts
The north and west can be more dramatic, with black sand and natural pools. They are excellent for scenery, but Atlantic swell can make swimming unsuitable. Always follow flags and local notices.
Choose for your group
Families may prioritise lifeguards, shade and facilities. Couples may prefer a quieter cove or a coastal walk. Do not choose solely by an old photo; conditions change.
Practical beach routine
Take water, sun protection and footwear. Use official parking, keep valuables out of sight and never enter the sea when safety advice says not to.
