Explore towns at walking pace
La Orotava, La Laguna, Garachico, Icod and many smaller places reward an unhurried visit. Park responsibly, walk the centre and choose locally run cafés or restaurants where possible.
Choose low-impact nature plans
Use marked trails, keep to access rules and check conditions before walking. Teide, Anaga and Teno are protected landscapes, not outdoor theme parks. Take all litter away and never leave established paths for a photo.
Try local food respectfully
Traditional cooking, seasonal produce and Canarian wines are part of the experience. Book when needed, be patient at busy local venues and ask about local specialities rather than expecting resort timetables.
Use a car thoughtfully
A car opens up rural Tenerife, but it also requires care: park only in designated places, do not block narrow roads and avoid driving into pedestrian historic centres. Travel with fewer stops and more time in each place.
