Tenerife Viewpoints: 15 Essential Views by Car

Updated in 2026. Tenerife’s viewpoints are one of the best reasons to hire a car on the island. On a single trip, you can see Mount Teide above a sea of clouds, cliffs falling into the Atlantic, valleys of banana plantations, laurel forest, highland towns and sunsets over La Gomera.

This guide brings together 15 genuinely useful viewpoints, organised so that you know which ones fit your route. The aim is not to stop at all of them. It is to choose well and avoid turning the day into a collection of sudden braking manoeuvres.

1. Chipeque viewpoint

Chipeque is one of the great classics for seeing Mount Teide above a sea of clouds. It is on the La Esperanza road, the TF-24, and Santa Úrsula Town Council locates access to summit viewpoints such as Chipeque and Chimague around kilometre 26, with signs and parking.

Best time: afternoon, sunset or days with a temperature inversion. Take warm clothing even if you come from the beach.

2. Ortuño viewpoint

Ortuño is another very rewarding stop on the climb through La Esperanza. WebTenerife includes it among the island’s viewpoints, and it is excellent for seeing pine forest, the summit and, with luck, a sea of clouds.

It is ideal if you drive up Mount Teide from La Laguna or Santa Cruz and want several convenient stops before reaching the National Park.

3. Ayosa viewpoint

On the ridge route towards Mount Teide, Ayosa offers beautiful views towards the valley and forest belt. It is less famous than Chipeque, but very useful for a brief stop by car.

4. Minas de San José

It is not a classic viewpoint with railings, but the Minas de San José landscape is one of Mount Teide’s most photogenic places. It looks like another planet: pumice stone, pale colours and the volcano dominating the background.

Respect the trails and parking areas. The National Park does not need more footprints in the wrong places.

5. Jardina viewpoint

Jardina is an essential stop on the Anaga road if you want views over La Laguna, Mount Teide in the background and the surrounding green mountains. It is easy to include on the way to Cruz del Carmen or Pico del Inglés.

It can become very busy. Park only where it is safe and do not block the road for a photograph.

6. Pico del Inglés viewpoint

WebTenerife locates Pico del Inglés viewpoint on the TF-114, with parking and a stop for bus route 073. It is one of Anaga’s most special balconies, with views towards the green mountain range and, on a clear day, Mount Teide and other islands.

Mist can change everything within minutes. Sometimes it hides the views, but adds magic.

7. Cruz del Carmen viewpoint

Cruz del Carmen combines a viewpoint, visitor centre and laurel-forest trails such as the Trail of the Senses. It is a perfect stop on a first visit to Anaga.

If you are travelling with children or people who do not want to walk far, it provides nature without too much complication.

8. El Bailadero viewpoint

El Bailadero is a beautiful stop for understanding Anaga’s terrain and its connection with Taganana. It fits very well into a route towards Roque de las Bodegas, Almáciga or Benijo.

Drive calmly: in Anaga, bends are part of the journey, not a formality.

9. Humboldt viewpoint

Humboldt is one of the most convenient viewpoints for seeing the Orotava Valley, Puerto de la Cruz and the agricultural mosaic of the north. WebTenerife highlights its views over banana plantations, the valley and Puerto de la Cruz.

It combines very well with La Orotava, the Botanical Garden and Puerto de la Cruz.

10. San Pedro viewpoint

In Los Realejos, San Pedro is the ideal place to look out over Rambla de Castro. Medianías de Tenerife highlights its views from the Tigaiga cliff to the coast of San Juan de la Rambla.

If you have time, do not stay only at the viewpoint: walk down for a section of Rambla de Castro.

11. La Garañona viewpoint

In El Sauzal, La Garañona offers views of the cliffs and northern coast. It is an excellent plan if you combine Casa del Vino, Los Lavaderos and the El Sauzal coast.

12. El Lance viewpoint

WebTenerife locates El Lance on the road descending from Icod el Alto to Los Realejos. It is known for its sculpture and northern views. It is a good stop on a route through Icod el Alto or Los Realejos.

13. Archipenque viewpoint

Archipenque is the easy viewpoint for seeing Los Gigantes from above, with the harbour, cliffs and La Gomera on the horizon. It is very convenient if you are around Puerto de Santiago or Santiago del Teide.

Sunset is the best time, although it is also when the largest number of people may be present.

14. Cherfe viewpoint

Cherfe lies on the road to Masca, within the Teno area. It offers broad views of mountains, ravines and volcanic scenery. It is a beautiful stop, but the road requires attention.

Do not stop on bends or perform strange manoeuvres for a photograph. Teno is a place for smooth driving.

15. Altos de Baracán

Baracán is one of the west’s most spectacular viewpoints, with a dramatic transition between the humid slope and drier landscape. It deserves a stop if you follow a route through Masca or Teno.

Tips for visiting viewpoints by car

• Do not park on the road: particularly in Anaga, Teno and the summit area.
• Take warm clothing: high viewpoints can be cold even when it is hot below.
• Do not rely only on the map: 20 kilometres of bends can be an emotional hour.
• Check the weather: mist, wind and calima greatly change the experience.
• Choose four or five per route: more than that normally becomes tiring.
